K-Pop dominates global album sales

The IFPI Global Music Report was recently published and it revealed global album sales. A stunning fact: 19 of the 20 top-selling albums of 2023 were K-Pop albums

It should be worth mentioning that this only covers sales of downloads and physical albums, no streaming data is included. The only artist present in this top 20 who does not release K-Pop music is Taylor Swift.

The artists who filled the top 20 of best selling albums are Seventeen; Stray Kids; NCT Dream; Jung Kook; Exo; Ive; Zerobaseone; Aespa. Tomorrow X Together; (G)I-dle; NCT127; Enhypen; Jimin and Taylor Swift.

The top selling album (physical) was Seventeen’s FML: 6.4m units sold

Sales of downloads and CD’s are actually growing in Korea, one of the few countries in the world that still sees growth of (download) sales.

Korean artists have extensive marketing strategies to encourage fans to buy physical product.

A 15.4% growth of vinyl sales and 13.6% growth of CD’s, in particular in countries like Korea and Japan.
